DARTZ Black Stallion: From Film Car to the DARTZ Flagship

The DARTZ Prombron’ Black Stallion is the flagship BOND. It began in 2019 as a one-off film car on a Hummer H2 drivetrain, with a Kevlar and carbon body. The Black Stallion CLV sits on a GMT 825 frame that DARTZ calls WarBones, with a GBOL body and an AMG engine, in Platinum Black or Aladeen Black. Its name honours Sikorsky's Stallion helicopters.

Some cars are designed for a showroom. The Black Stallion was designed for a camera, and it never lost the habit of being looked at.

A film car first

In November 2019 Top Gear showed the first Black Stallion: a one-off built for a film DARTZ would not name, on a Hummer H2 drivetrain with its stock V8. The body was Kevlar and carbon, with a special hexagonal carbon fibre. DARTZ told the magazine only that it was fast enough “for chasing”.

The name was deliberate. “Black Stallion is the next one in the helicopter series,” DARTZ told Top Gear, after the Black Alligator and the Black Shark, in honour of Igor Sikorsky, who worked at the Russo-Baltic works DARTZ descends from. The company Sikorsky later founded in America built the Sea Stallion and King Stallion helicopters.

A cigar lounge on wheels

Inside, the Black Stallion is a mobile cigar lounge. Five leathers are layered through the cabin, and stingray meets Mississippi alligator on a chesterfield-style sofa. Outside, the military tradition; inside, the calm of a private club.

One chassis, many characters

The Black Stallion has been built as the camera-ready MVD Edition for DARTZ’s Movie Vehicle Department, as an Aladeen Edition that reincarnates the famous Dictator car, and as the Type-C, the first Black Stallion for private owners. The Royal Landaulet recreates the 1912 Russo-Baltique Royal Landaulet, with an extra axle.

Back in black: the Black Stallion CLV

The CLV is the Black Stallion rebuilt from the frame up. DARTZ describes it simply: a GMT 825 frame it calls WarBones, a body made with its GBOL armouring technology, and an AMG engine for a soul. It can protect against bullets, or only look as if it does. That is the client’s choice, and DARTZ says that with GBOL an armoured car weighs about as much as a regular large car.

CLV is the Roman numeral 155. It marks DARTZ’s anniversary series, which began in 2024 on the 155th anniversary of 1869 and runs until the CLX year, 2029.

You can choose any colour, as DARTZ puts it, as long as it is black: Platinum Black or Aladeen Black. Gold is not forgotten, for those who insist.

The Picassian Sliced grille

The face of the CLV is its Picassian Sliced Art Deco grille, cut with what DARTZ calls its “Ruler Design” and a circular cutter. The profiles of two men are worked into its geometry: Igor Sikorsky and André Nágel, the pilot and the racer whose faces form DARTZ’s crest, the Spirit of Victors.

“This is new man cave car, new Toy For Big Boy, and let’s not avoid this word: Your statement on wheels.” Leonard F. Yankelovich, DARTZ

Ordering a Black Stallion

The Black Stallion carries the name of a man who left the Russo-Baltic works and built his company in America: Igor Sikorsky. Read DARTZ in America. Orders begin, as every DARTZ does, with the office of Leonard F. Yankelovich.

About DARTZ

DARTZ is a Riga carrosserie that builds bespoke, opulent vehicles, armoured or non-armoured, in strictly limited numbers. It calls them BONDs: Bespoke Opulent Noble Drives.

Its heritage runs back to the Russo-Baltic Wagon Factory (RBVZ), founded in Riga in 1869, whose automobile department built its first car in 1909. Leonard F. Yankelovich revived that heritage as DARTZ in 1988. The group, DARTZ Grupa OÜ, is registered in Tallinn, Estonia.

Its Prombron’ models, from the Iron Diamond and Black Dragon to the Black Shark, Black Alligator and Black Stallion, have been covered by Top Gear, Forbes, Robb Report and Fox News, among many others.
