The DARTZ Code: The Rules Written in the DARTZ Black Book Ⓓ

The DARTZ Black Book Ⓓ is the house code of DARTZ. It replaces © with Ⓓ, because DARTZ says it makes history rather than lawsuits; builds BONDs, never SUVs; delivers opulence, not luxury; uses only natural leather it calls NaturReal Ⓓ; bans the word project; calls its people DARTZ FORCE, not a team; and measures power in Stallion Force. Its founder, Leonard F. Yankelovich, does not drive.

Most companies publish values. DARTZ publishes rules, and gives them a name: the DARTZ Black Book Ⓓ. “We don’t read the books,” it says. “We write them.”

Ⓓ, not ©

DARTZ says it does not play the copyright game. It makes its money from building cars, not from taking colleagues to court, and it knows it is copied, fully and partly, directly and indirectly. So it uses its own symbol. The Ⓓ stands for DARTZ, for Drive and for Overdrive.

BONDs, not SUVs

DARTZ builds Bespoke Opulent Noble Drives. Its clients, it says, already own the sports cars they want, and their staff drive the utility vehicles. Read what a BOND is.

Opulence, not luxury

The rule comes from the founder’s own words to the BBC in 2015: luxury is too common a word, one you can buy in a supermarket. DARTZ delivers opulence, and it keeps a whole department for it, the Department of Opulence.

NaturReal Ⓓ, not eco

DARTZ uses only natural leather, which it calls NaturReal Ⓓ. No eco leather, no recycled materials, and not even Alcantara.

Cars, not projects

“Project” is banned at DARTZ. The word, DARTZ says, belongs to companies whose managers are only “in project”. DARTZ builds the cars.

FORCE, not team

The people of DARTZ are not a team but the DARTZ FORCE. Some have been with Leo since his school days. The youngest members have been with DARTZ for more than 20 years, and the oldest for four to five decades. In nearly four decades, DARTZ says, it has never changed its owner or its principles.

Stallion Force, not horsepower

Horsepower, DARTZ says, is boring, and kilowatts are worse. Its unit is SF, Stallion Force, after the flagship Black Stallion, and it always adds one: a car is declared at 600 & 1 or 1,000 & 1 Stallion Force.

A Supreme Leader who doesn’t drive

The last rule is the most surprising. Leonard F. Yankelovich, the Supreme Leader of DARTZ, cannot drive and has no licence. His reasoning, as the Black Book records it: when you are broke, you can’t buy a car and don’t need a licence, and once you have money, why drive? You hire a chauffeur. DARTZ builds cars, it says, for those who arrive, not for those who get from A to B.

Why this Black Book carries the name

The encyclopedia you are reading is called the Black Book after that code. It is written the same way: by DARTZ, in Riga, in its own words.

About DARTZ

DARTZ is a Riga carrosserie that builds bespoke, opulent vehicles, armoured or non-armoured, in strictly limited numbers. It calls them BONDs: Bespoke Opulent Noble Drives.

Its heritage runs back to the Russo-Baltic Wagon Factory (RBVZ), founded in Riga in 1869, whose automobile department built its first car in 1909. Leonard F. Yankelovich revived that heritage as DARTZ in 1988. The group, DARTZ Grupa OÜ, is registered in Tallinn, Estonia.

Its Prombron’ models, from the Iron Diamond and Black Dragon to the Black Shark, Black Alligator and Black Stallion, have been covered by Top Gear, Forbes, Robb Report and Fox News, among many others.

Questions we are asked

What is the DARTZ Black Book Ⓓ?

DARTZ's own code: the rules, principles and habits of the house, published by DARTZ Grupa. This Black Book, the encyclopedia you are reading, takes its name from it.

What does the Ⓓ symbol mean?

DARTZ uses Ⓓ in place of ©. D is for DARTZ, for Drive and for Overdrive, and DARTZ says it prefers making history to making lawsuits.

Does Leonard F. Yankelovich drive?

No. The DARTZ Black Book says its Supreme Leader has no driving licence and never needed one.

What is Stallion Force?

DARTZ's name for horsepower. Because the flagship is the Black Stallion, DARTZ adds one to a declared figure: 600 & 1 or 1,000 & 1 Stallion Force.

What is DARTZ FORCE?

DARTZ's word for its people. The youngest members, it says, have been with DARTZ for more than 20 years.
