The Dictator's Golden DARTZ: The Aladeen Cars, 2011 to MMXXII

On 10 August 2011 three golden DARTZ Prombron’ Aladeen Edition cars arrived at Plaza de España in Seville to film The Dictator, where they became Admiral General Aladeen's motorcade. The original golden series ran to ten cars, and the last was sold in Cannes in 2021. For the film's tenth anniversary DARTZ built ten more: the Aladeen Edition MMXXII, on the Iron Diamond MMXXII, with 800 hp and BR2 armour as standard.

Hollywood asked DARTZ for a motorcade fit for the ruler of Wadiya. DARTZ sent gold.

Seville, 10 August 2011

According to DARTZ’s production records, three golden DARTZ Prombron’ Aladeen Edition cars arrived on 10 August 2011 at the Presidential Palace of Wadiya. In the real world, the palace was Plaza de España in Seville. In the film, it belonged to Admiral General Aladeen, and the three cars became his golden motorcade.

Paramount Pictures, on behalf of Sacha Baron Cohen, had asked for a symbol of unlimited resources. DARTZ supplied the fleet with RPG-proof armouring, a leather interior to match and an on-set support team, and came to the premiere at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2012.

The original golden series

The film made DARTZ famous far beyond the car world, and DARTZ carried the story on in a limited series for clients. The original golden series ran to ten cars, including the three film vehicles. By November 2021 all but one had found an owner, and DARTZ says the last was sold in Cannes that year.

Ten more, for the tenth anniversary

A decade after the premiere, DARTZ built ten more: the Prombron’ The Dictator Aladeen Edition MMXXII. They are built on the Prombron’ Iron Diamond MMXXII, a Mercedes-Maybach GLS with a carbon and Kevlar body, and DARTZ’s reason for choosing it was simple: diamonds are forever.

Base Prombron’ Iron Diamond MMXXII, on the Mercedes-Maybach GLS

Aladeen Gold paint, authentic Wadiyan badges and Wadiyan flags complete the look.

The Aladeen interior

Every exotic leather you can name, and one you would rather not, with 555 types of wood. Natural gold buttons. Old-school gauges, because screens are for peasants. Biometric safes come as standard, for a handgun, a humidor, make-up and the Aladeen safe itself. The extras include reel-to-reel audio by Metaxas & Sins, a diamond water filter and a bulletproof umbrella in alligator or python skin.

“That was not merely the birth of a golden car. That was the moment gold stopped being a color and became a warning.” Leonard F. Yankelovich, DARTZ

Gold, and then black

The Aladeen story did not stay gold. The Black Stallion has been built as an Aladeen Edition that reincarnates the film car, and for America DARTZ offers the Black Stallion CLV in Aladeen Black. Read the full DARTZ filmography.
